BUDGET WRITERS WORRY ABOUT 2014 FISCAL CHALLENGES

The Lewiston Tribune reports some of Idaho’s top budget writers are already voicing concern and worries about tax revenue and the challenges if crafting the state budget for fiscal year 2014.

The Joint Finance Appropriations Committee toured the University of Idaho last week, and in the process got a general fund update.

The Lewiston Tribune reports ( http://bit.ly/eqraLC) the news was disappointing for some.

Rep. Maxine Bell of Jerome says the outlook for 2014 could mean more tough choices ahead for government programs and tax relief.

Bell pointed out how lawmaker approval earlier this year of $36 million in tax relief and 2 percent raises for state employees sent a signal that the economy was on an upward trend.

Republican Rep. Fred Wood cautioned colleagues to avoid making political promises on things like tax cuts.
