Nate Green reports that, on Tuesday, patrons of the Nampa, Vallivue and Caldwell school districts will have the opportunity to vote on supplemental levies for their schools. School officials say they need the levy money to maintain existing services for students after recent years of shrinking state support for education.
The Nampa School District, for example, has put off needed upgrades to technology, curricula and buildings.
Elementary students are using obsolete computers donated by other government agencies; the computers often break down, and they can’t run modern educational software. Meanwhile, the reading curriculum is so old that the books meant to accompany the curriculum are no longer published.
